When you think of a ceremony you always think about the vows, about the weight of a new ring and about the first kiss. But you don’t often think about ways to make your ceremony as unique as you are! Whether you’re eloping on a mountain top or saying your “I Do’s” at a gorgeous venue, let’s talk about the ways to make this day one of a kind.
First off, I want to start by saying that we’re going to jump right past some of the more traditional ceremony items like hand fasting and the literal tying of a knot. While they DO make your ceremony unique, I want to touch on a few of MY favorite things for a ceremony.
Let’s Make a Wedding Day Capsule
This is such a fun way to remember your day so specifically. They say that the smell of something can bring back memories you didn’t even realize you had forgotten so maybe adding the perfume or cologne you’re wearing would work! But if you don’t plan to open this for many many years it might be best to simply write down the name of it so that you can go and order some 😉 Adding in a special wine to open later down the road as well as hand written notes to each other are another great addition! Get this box ready before hand and then during the ceremony lock it up with a beautiful ornate lock, or nail it shut! Just make sure you put it somewhere you’ll remember!
Release the Butterflies!
You’ve heard of releasing doves, but what about butterflies?! They’re a little easier to have on hand and are so fun to watch flutter away! Although be ware, they might stick around your gorgeous flowers afterwards.
Plant a Tree
We love Mother Earth so why not show her how much by planting a tree or bush! Something that will last the test of time! If you have permission from the venue or location you can plant it on site but you can also plant it in a pot and take it home with you. I think this is really special because with care and attention it will flourish, just like your marriage!
Get creative with your vows!
I’ve seen a lot of people read their vows off of their phones and I get it, it’s WAY easier! But it’s also way more fun to do something really unique and different. Try writing your vows on an old time scroll, or in special books that you can look back and read again and again. Hot tip: have a calligrapher transcribe your vows! they’ll look gorgeous for photos and you might even frame them after!
Bring Your Venue Home
This one is a bit different but still so sweet! Sort of like our wedding capsule, but instead of having the box pre-done, have your guests help you collect small things to put in a tiny little bottle or terrarium. Think of adding sand from Tahoe at the bottom, some small pebbles, and pine needles and sealing it up. Every time you look at it you’ll see your gorgeous ceremony location in your mind! This is perfect for a destination wedding or elopement!
We are so lucky in the Reno Tahoe area to have some truly amazing officiants that can really help you personalize your ceremony and day! Here are some of my favorite!
